Urological Fibrosis

Through our subsidiary ThendUro, advancing  the development of potential therapies for fibrotic conditions of the urinary system, where current treatments remain limited.

Understanding the disease
What is urological fibrosis?
Urological fibrosis encompasses a group of progressive conditions characterized by excessive scarring in the urinary system, including the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra. This fibrotic tissue buildup can obstruct urine flow, impair kidney function, and significantly impact quality of life.

These conditions often result from chronic inflammation, injury, or surgery, leading to tissue remodeling that restricts normal organ function. Early detection and intervention are critical to preventing irreversible damage.
Conditions We Address
Urological Fibrotic Conditions
ThendUro focuses on developing therapies for several challenging urological fibrotic diseases.

Renal Fibrosis

Progressive scarring of kidney tissue that impairs filtration function, potentially leading to chronic kidney disease and kidney failure.

Bladder Fibrosis

Progressive scarring of bladder tissue that reduces capacity and elasticity, leading to frequent urination, urgency, and chronic pain.

Peyronie's Disease

Fibrotic plaque formation in the penis causing curvature, pain, and erectile dysfunction, significantly impacting quality of life.

Ureteral Strictures

Narrowing of the ureter due to scar tissue formation, often causing obstruction, pain, and potential kidney damage if left untreated.

Urethral Strictures

Scarring that narrows the urethra, causing difficulty urinating, weak stream, and potential urinary retention requiring intervention.

Posterior Urethral Fibrosis

Scarring in the posterior urethra near the bladder neck, often following trauma or surgery, leading to voiding dysfunction and obstruction.

Interstitial Cystitis with Fibrosis

Chronic bladder condition with inflammation and fibrotic changes causing severe bladder pain, urgency, and significantly impaired quality of life.
ThendUro's Research Efforts
Our Approach to Urological Fibrosis
ThendUro is pioneering research on novel therapeutic approaches which have the potential to address the underlying mechanisms of urological fibrosis, with the ultimate goal of providing patients with effective, minimally invasive treatment options.

Anti-fibrotic Mechanisms

Targeting key cellular pathways that drive scarring in urological tissues to prevent and potentially reverse fibrotic changes.

Localized Delivery

Developing delivery methods that concentrate treatment at the site of fibrosis, maximizing efficacy while minimizing systemic exposure.

Tissue Regeneration

Exploring approaches that not only halt fibrosis but support the restoration of healthy, functional urological tissue.
